3 Lessons I Learnt From A Recent 'Stuff Up'
Over the last 2 months I have been through huge personal growth as an entrepreneur. I've had to learn a lot on the go and some lessons were learnt the hard and somewhat painful way.One big learning I took from a recent experience with an investor was that I left it too late to surround myself with the right people.I've since realised that business is a wild and unpredictable ride that can't be done alone. By not committing time and effort into an ongoing relationship with a mentor, I realised that I didn't have any sound advice to back me on recent business decisions. Learning from my mistake, here are my 3 reasons for finding yourself a business mentor/coach ASAP.1. Someone to challenge the voice in your head. A mentor is someone who will help you to rationalise the voice in your head. Let's be honest, we are our own biggest critics. I am totally guilty of letting the negative voice get the better of me, so finding the time to sit with a mentor and listen to their feedback allows me to weed out the unnecessary negative self talk and doubt and focus on the way forward.2. Problem Solving Made Easy. Problems and barriers in business seems so much more stressful and harder to solve when it's just you in your own head. A mentor is someone who will listen to what is going on for you and together you can use your collective wisdom to creatively solve what's going on. I find this is useful when I am so overwhelmed by a hurdle that I can't see the way through. Sometimes it just takes a fresh set of eyes and the results are always extraordinary.3. Dream Big. A mentor or coach will always dream bigger for you than you will. They should be the person that sees potential in you and is as committed to your success as you are. It is so important to surround yourself with people who 'get it' and get you. Your path to success will be streamlined if you can surround yourself with the right people from day one.
